What Does F1 Mean in Cattle?
an F1 cattle is the child of a purebred Wagyu and another cattle breed, usually an Angus here in America. The “F1” means they are the first generation after the crossbreeding.
How Are They Different From Other Cattle?
Full-Blood Wagyu are 100% Wagyu, which means they have that rich, buttery marbling that makes Wagyu beef so special. These cattle are bred to produce high-quality beef with superior tenderness and flavor. However, because of their genetics, full-blood Wagyu cattle can be smaller in size compared to other breeds of cattle, like Angus, Beefmaster or Brahma.
On the other hand, a cross between Wagyu and another breed, brings the best of both breeds. They tend to be larger and faster-growing than full-blood Wagyu, and they still have that incredible marbling and flavor that Wagyu is known for. However, because they are not 100% Wagyu, they usually don’t have quite as much marbling as full-blood Wagyu. But don’t worry – F1 cattle still produce beef that’s incredibly tender and flavorful!
